In not so distant past, reading was largely restricted to physical medias, like newspaper, magazines, etc. Editors used techniques of typography and graphical composition to arrange information in form of images and text on paper, so as to facilitate users quickly find the most relevant information quickly and easily.
With the advent of internet, a massive amount of information is available to people now. For editors, this is an opportunity and a challenge. Its now possible to be able to quickly reach a global audience. But how does one stand out in the sea of information? How to reach to the ones who matter?
The proposed solution is a mobile app ‘Sniffer’. It collects user based data like location, activity, mood, people in vicinity, browsing trend of users, etc and builds a filter (in form of meta-data) around user. It then lets other apps like Flipboard, use this meta-data to find relevant and personalized information for the user in real time.
What makes Sniffer unique is its transparency. At every event of data collection, it informs the user about it in a non-intrusive manner. There is a growing concern for digital privacy and security. People are spending more and more time on-line and have their own comfort levels in terms of how much they want to be tracked. They want a control over how much they are being tracked. But they also want a seamless experience.
The task is to design interface for an app which tracks its users and constantly informs them about it in a non-intrusive manner.
NEED OF A FRAMEWORK Today, information from one corner of the world can meet audience from an entirely different corner. The network has grown so vast that most of the times the editors are not even aware about their audience. Thus, there is a need of a structure, a framework, upon which this synergy can happen seamlessly.
RESPONSIVE PLATFORMS The modern reading platforms are evolving into being increas- ingly responsive, with abilities to track user’s likes, dislikes, interests, etc. They use this data to find and bring the most relevant information to the user. This is gradual process and its safe to assume that the trend is here to stay.
IMPACT ON EDITORIAL PROCESS Authors and readers are now closer than ever. Its a good change as it allows editors to understand their audience and have a much better sense of what is expected out of them. The build- measure-learn feedback loop is much shorter now, allowing editors to come up with superior content.
PLUG-INS FOR INTELLIGENT INFORMATION The meta-data, has always been the link between people and information. Every article, post, or feed has a set of meta-data associated to it, which allows it to seek the right audience. This system will only get enhanced and stronger over the time. The bigger challenge here is to make the process transparent.

Next Page Design Competition was introduced by Domus Academy. This was an individual entry. The results are yet to be announced.
